Commonly Asked Questions
What
are the expectations of our members?
Pewaukee Lake Water Ski Club (PLWSC) is
organized as a 501(c) (3) volunteer charitable
organization operated exclusively for
educational purposes to strengthen the skills of
its members by providing show ski instruction
and sponsoring and performing water ski shows
for the community. Dedicated volunteers are
required to run it. Each member is required to
participate in at least one of the vital
functions necessary to run our organization
which continues to be dedicated to providing a
high quality, free show that entertains over
10,000 people annually.
Why should I join the
PLWSC?
If you enjoy water skiing and wish to
promote the sport while improving your
capabilities in the techniques, rules,
regulations and safety involved in the sport of
show skiing, while entertaining a community, you
may want to consider joining our club. PLWSC is
a non-competitive club that strives to
continually improve its show in a family
atmosphere.
Do I have to know how to
ski to join the club?
PLWSC teaches water-skiers how to become
show skiers! To ski in the show, the minimum
requirement is that each skier be solid and
comfortable on two skis. Desirable requirements
include core strength, balance, and the ability
to slalom ski. If you are interested in learning
to water ski, PLWSC offers our community members
education on water skiing during our
Learn-to-Ski clinics.
Is there an age
requirement?
PLWSC is proud to have members as young as 4
and as old as 81 years old, with every age in
between. Children younger than 14 years of age
must have an adult legal guardian join the club
and USA Water Ski. The guardian must attend each
practice and show that the young member attends.
How much does membership
cost?
Single membership is $100. Family membership
is $175. Non-skiing members do not pay
membership dues to PLWSC, but are required to
join USA Water Ski for insurance and safety
purposes. Each skiing member has a minimum
fundraising requirement of $150, with a maximum
of $500 per family. There is an additional USA
required Water Ski Association fee of $50 for
individuals under 25, $80 for individuals 25 and
older and $145 for a family membership
with up to five family members.
Can I join the club as a
non-skier?
Absolutely! Non-skiing members are
invaluable to the operation of our water ski
club. Non-skiing members participate by
driving the pick-up boat, operating concessions,
running the sound board, designing and
coordinating costumes, fundraising, promotions &
advertising, dock coordination and much more!
Does the Pewaukee Lake
Water Ski Club compete in ski competitions?
No, PLWSC is an exhibition club. We perform
free, weekly shows throughout the summer season
for community entertainment and to promote the
sport of water skiing.
When are the ski shows
performed?
Ski shows begin on Memorial Day and run
through Labor Day. The club performs every
Thursday evening and at special events such as
the 4th of July Celebration, Pewaukee Kiwanis
Beach Party and others. Please see our
Schedule page for detailed show information.
When does the club
practice?
Indoor land practices begin in
March and continue through April. Through April,
practice is held twice weekly, Tuesdays and
Thursdays. Beginning in May, when the water
temperature is tolerable, practice moves to the
water. After Memorial Day throughout the summer,
practice is held every Tuesday beginning at 6
p.m. until sunset. In order to ski in the
show, members are required to regularly attend
practices.
Do I have to own skis to
ski in the club?
No. PLWSC owns all of its equipment. Each
member is provided with the necessary skis and
ropes to practice and perform in the show. To
participate in specialty events such as wake
boarding, knee boarding, swivel skiing, or if
you are a child and require smaller skis,
you will need to provide your own equipment.
Do I have to purchase my
costumes?
Each member purchases a base costume as
determined by the club’s Costume
Director. Flotation devices are available for
rental for the season. Specific costumes for
each act are provided by the club for use during
the show.
